What is a SAMMY Award?
The SAMMYS (Syracuse Area Music Awards) were created by Landmark Theatre Executive Director Frank Malfitano to acknowledge and honor the achievements and contributions of Syracuse area musicians. The SAMMYS will provide significant recognition to deserving resident artists in the fields of country, fold, bluegrass, jazz, rock, blues, rhythm 'n' blues, classical, soul, rap, gospel and musical theatre.
Who nominates artists for SAMMY Awards?
The SAMMYS Executive Committee canvassed more than 75 members of the Central New York music industry for suggestions and nominations. With these recommendations in hand, the committee chooses the nominees for all 38 SAMMY Award categories.
Who is eligible to win a SAMMY?
Awards are presented to Central New York musicians who performed or made significant musical contributions in the Central New York area (50-mile radius of Syracuse).
Who votes for SAMMY Award winners?
More than 6,000 ballots are distributed thoughout Central New York to members of the music industry. Voters include musicians, booking agents, radio station personnel, music retailers, music media, music educators, sound companies, roadies, nightclub employees and others directly related to the music industry in Central New York.
